Earthwise Environmental E-Solution Patent
Earthwise Environmental Introduces Patent Pending Cooling Technology that Eliminates Chemicals, Conserves Water
BENSENVILLE, Ill.
(Nov. 24, 2008) – Earthwise Environmental, Inc., Bensenville,
Ill., introduces its “e
solution,” a patent pending program that completely eliminates hazardous
chemical treatments and dramatically reduces cooling tower discharge by up to 75
percent compared to most
cooling tower programs.
“This technology provides the
solution to a safer environment,” says Bob Miller, founder and president. “It
uses far less water, reuses it to conserve waste and eliminates chemicals,
providing truly economical and healthful applications in all types of public
venues.” Earthwise designs and implements water management solutions for
hospitals, schools, hotels, food processing plants, and light industrial and
commercial buildings.
The majority of today’s heat-transfer
technologies require chemicals to reduce scale, corrosion and microbiological
fouling. If left untreated, the overall impact on hydronics systems is increased capital replacement;
higher labor and energy costs; health risks, including for Legionnaires’
disease; and unscheduled system downtime.
The upcoming push for Leadership in
Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification makes smart water use a
critical bottom-line issue. As businesses struggle to compete in a challenging
economic climate, attention to the bottom line is even more critical. The “e
solution” can provide LEED points for facilities in water conservation and
innovative technology categories.
“Many of the hazardous compounds
traditionally used in cooling tower systems eventually end up in the water
system, increasing the need for further treatment downstream at the treatment
plants,” Miller says. “Plastic chemical drum disposal, freight costs and overall
environmental impacts also are concerns.”
But the “e solution”
eliminates drum disposal, chemical treatments and safety issues associated with
chemical programs by using scientifically-proven methods to remove and control
mineral scale. The “e solution” also
provides
microbiological and corrosion control equal to or better than
existing chemical programs. Because the
after-use water contains no chemical impurities, it can be
collected and reused for irrigation.
Miller says the technology behind
the “e solution” is based
on universally documented and accepted
scientific principals, centered in anode-cathode reactions under a
supplied current. Mineral is precipitated and then periodically flushed from the
system. Easily calculated and measured water indices control corrosion. Adhering
microbes to precipitated calcium and converting small amounts of chloride to
chlorine typically lowers bacteria counts, resulting in biological control.
Minor piping installation and a small
operating footprint allow the “e solution” to be installed from a skid-mount
platform and easily moved from system to system if necessary. Most importantly,
continuing service, testing and monitoring ensure efficient operation and
performance, along with validation of results. Twenty-four/seven remote
monitoring also is achieved to ensure program performance.
With five Certified Water
Technologists (CWTs) on the team – more than any other water treatment company
in Illinois – Earthwise Environmental, Inc. is the Midwest’s leader at providing
safe, environmentally-sound water management solutions. Its staff has more than
120 years of combined experience and provides service to clients including
Prairie Packaging, Northwestern Memorial Hospitals, University of Chicago
Hospitals, Soldier Field Stadium and Hamilton Partners’ entire portfolio of
commercial office buildings.

Earthwise Environmental partners with
leaders in industrial hygiene, safety and environmental services to continually
evaluate and implement new water- and energy-saving technologies. In 1997,
Earthwise became the Midwest’s first water management company to introduce
drumless technology, eliminating the need for chemical drums and hazardous
chemical storage. Its strategic partnership with Phigenics LLC, Naperville, Ill.
– the industry’s leader in Legionella organism testing – makes it the nation’s
premier resource in the fight against Legionnaires’ disease, exceeding new
